  1. That’s beautiful. Such intricate detail must have been difficult to paint? Beautiful work.

    1. Thank you Maria, you are so kind. Actually this painting went through an entire overhaul and I like it much better. I needed to loosen up and when I did that, it was surprisingly easy. Kind of like life, really 🙂

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever thought about snow on dunes, so thanks for linking the two in your pleasant pastel portrait (at least in terms of color, if not medium).

  3. My pleasure, Steve. The dunes are indeed a place of surprising contrasts, and they keep me coming back.

  4. What a beautiful painting, and what a lovely reminder of our 2004 Christmas Eve snowfall here on the Texas coast. It was unexpected, and perfect, and deep. One of the best photos was of a Surfer Dude Snowman (with his board) built next to the memorial for victims of the 1900 hurricane on Galveston’s seawall..

People who were here still grow misty-eyed, remembering. There’s a radar image showing the snow coverage all along the coast and barrier islands that’s phenomenal, but these books, commissioned by a local grocery chain, still are the best. My mom bought me the first book in 2005. Maybe this will be another year for white dunes!

  5. That is pretty neat~ I’m glad my painting triggered those memories for you. The Surfer Dude Snowman sounds particularly moving. I read a book by Susan Wittig Albert about that hurricane that painted a vivid picture of the disaster.

  6. Thank you, Melissa. I like the collection of people who show up here.

  7. Happy New Year!! I hope you have a wonderful 2015!

    1. Oh, Michelle, I wish the same for you!

  8. It is a beautiful work and I noticed the bird of course – my eye was instantly drawn :-)))

A very happy new year to you, Melissa.

    1. Thank you Andrew. I knew you’d spot him. I painted him from memory so I hope he is forgiveable. When I venture out on the dunes this time of year I always see these little brown guys scuttling around at the base of the grasses. They must be seed eaters but beyond that I have no idea what they are. LBJ’s, I guess 🙂

      1. LBJs sounds good enough to me, Melissa :-))

      2. Yes, when some chirp it is with a Johnsonian drawl.

  9. I was just about to ID your bird as a LBJ. 🙂

I’m sorry to be so late in arriving, Melissa. This is lovely. The snow on the bent grasses and the radiant colors remind of an October snowfall here in the northeast.

Happy New Year, Melissa. May it bring you all the inspirational brush strokes you desire…..and many more commissions. 🙂

    1. I’m so pleased the painting struck a chord with you, Steve. Thank you and may it bring inspiration and abundant success to you!

  10. The colors are lovely. I almost missed the little bird: I’m glad I didn’t!

Happy New Year to you and yours Melissa! You have enriched my life as well. xx
