Shoreline Magic

Blue Waters

There is a small lake I love to visit, nestled in the heart of Moraine Hills State Park. You won’t find wave runners or water-skiers there~just peaceful water reflecting the blue sky and a ring of native vegetation gracing its edges. This is how I remember lakes being when I was small. Humans pride themselves on “putting their stamp” on things, and boy around here they sure have. I’m thankful there are still a few pockets of nature to be found here and there, unstamped.

  1. This is lovely. It reminds me of the lakes I recently discovered at Brazos Bend State Park — although those lakes are covered with lotus rather than water lilies. I’d never choose one over the other, and this is a wonderful re-creation of the lilies.

    1. Thank you so much, Linda. I think one of the reasons I hesitate to paint water is because there are usually water lilies and inevitably someone starts comparing me with Monet. Talk about getting a complex!
I’m happy that you are finding similar places down there~and covered with lotus. That is lovely. I’ve read that our lakes were once covered with lotus but word got out and people from Chicago would come out and fill their boats with them for some reason. You can still find small patches of them here and there and I hope that they eventually recover.

  2. Wonderful painting, so tranquil and undisturbed… I love the dragonfly in the grass and the blues of the water. It’s been ages since I’ve visited a lake, this makes me want to go find one! When taking photographs it can be difficult finding scenes without a human stamp, it must be the same for painters.

    1. Thank you Barbara! Your the only one who noticed the dragonfly 🙂
Indeed it is hard. We humans are stamping all over this beautiful Earth!!
